  • Mike in Delray: Wow you do not know Ohio gun laws my friend. Ohio is also an unliscenced open carry state (look it up). Nor do you have to register your guns, and if its legal under federal law, its legal here.

  • Apparently it is for some reason. Your right, in fact most medical insurance programs do, but these people don't see it the same for some reason when the government is the insurance program and the recipients pay no premiums, then everyone is up in arms over the unfair "tax". I don't get it...

  • I feel like a broken record. Its not a tax, it isn't taxing everyone who is overweight or smokes on their 1040 forms, its simply increasing the share of medical bills people have to pay themselves for people whose bills are currently paid BY the government (must be nice).

  • I didn't argue that point, thats irrelevant and doesn't change the fact that the "lower income" (47% of citizens) don't pay any either in contrast to what ruby claimed.

  • No offense... but I can't believe you are really against the "nanny-state" yet see a fee assessed only on people receiving government welfare as being nanny-statey. A true anti-nanny-stater would see this as a step toward getting people off of the government teat and toward personal responsibility.

  • How is this a tax? Please explain. Is it a tax when my insurance premiums go up if I smoke, am overweight, have diabetes, etc? How is this different. Seriously I am trying to follow your logic but am having a hard time.

  • I'm confused... this article has nothing to do with taxing the public for life choices, its making people who are requesting free medical care to chip in if they make unhealthy choices, similar to some of the ones you list. If you were just talking about these people, then I think you are right.
